Center for Applied Research in Continued Studies – Institute for Economic Education (Registered Society)
The ZAWF – IÖB, ”Zentrum für angewandte Weiterbildungsforschung – Institut für ökonomische Bildung e. V.“ (Center for Applied Research in Continued Studies – Institute for Economics Education (Registered Society)) was founded in summer 2004. The association is an independent, private and nonprofit research and development center. The resources for the development and application of research projects are pooled under the umbrella of the society. The results of the research services are communicated by means of appropriate events and publications, and thus contribute towards further development of research in the field of continued education. The goal of the society is also to create an extended platform for the exchange of ideas between academics and practitioners. The ZAWF creates new knowledge networks within the field of continued education by offering expert rounds, lecture series, seminars and ongoing information groundwork.
The ZAWF – IÖB works in close cooperation with the WHL Wissenschaftlichen Hochschule Lahr.
The main subject matter of the ZAWF – IÖB is, on the one hand, basic and applied research within the field of continued education. This ranges from pedagogical analyses and designing measures for continued education to questions regarding implementation and evaluation of integrated human resources concepts and the necessary steps for competency development to the analysis of the economic significance of continued education. At the same time, attention is given to the identification of new, future-oriented research areas within that research carried out in continued education. On the other hand, questions regarding economics education are examined, e.g. competency development within a specific subject area, the categorical differentiation of the subject area, specific didactic methodology.

Membership fees and donations are tax deductible. As of 31 January 2006, the ZAWF- IÖB e.V. has been provisionally certified by the revenue office in Lahr as a nonprofit organisation (document dated 31 May 2006, Tax ID number 10050/51985) on the basis of its ‘Promotion of Academic Interests’ ("Förderung wissenschaftlicher Zwecke"). It is thus exempted from corporate tax according to § 5 par. 1, art. 9 of German corporate tax law.
